The classic fairy tale of Cinderella has been filmed countless times over the years. The story has definitely not been seen like in the new Disney + adaptation “Sneakerella”.
Actually, young El (Chosen Jacobs) loves working in his late mother’s shoe store. But he has been dreaming of taking the next step and living out his creative energy as a professional sneaker designer for a long time. However, his mean stepfather Trey (Bryan Terrell Clark) and his sons keep putting obstacles in his way.
El doesn’t let that get him down though – especially when he falls for Kira King (Lexi Underwood), daughter of the basketball star and sneaker tycoon Darius King (John Salley), and sees a chance to share his passion for her conquer heart…
“Cinderella” becomes “Sneakerella”
You can hardly tell from the table of contents, but “Sneakerella” is actually a new adaptation of the Grimm fairy tale “Cinderella” which Disney filmed more than 70 years ago in the form of the animated classic “Cinderella” (at least the closeness to this English title already indicates the common template of “Sneaker” and “Cinderella”).
In the remake of the Mouse House, the story has now been brought into the present and the world of designer sneakers (!) – and also provided with a male protagonist, played by Chosen Jacobs, who has so far mainly played the young Mike Hanlon from the two new “IT “ movies is known.
Whether this fresh approach, which at first glance seems a bit bizarre, will actually work out, in the end, will become apparent in just a few days: Sneakerella will be released on Disney+ on May 13, 2022. You can watch the trailer again in the original English below:
