Fanny Ardant and Melvil Poupaud love each other in Les Jeunes Amants, a new production by Carine Tardieu (Take me out of a doubt, Wind in my calves), from a screenplay by Solveig Anspach. Check out the trailer.
Shauna, 70, free and independent, has put her love life aside. However, she is disturbed by the presence of Pierre, this 45-year-old man she had just met years earlier. And against all odds, Pierre does not see in her “a woman of a certain age”, but a desirable woman whom he is not afraid to love. Except that Pierre is married and the father of a family.
This is the story of Young Lovers, whose trailer promises a dramatic and romantic film, carried by a beautiful tandem, Fanny Ardant and Melvil Poupaud.
This new achievement by Carine Tardieu (Take me out of a doubt, Wind in my calves …) has a particular genesis. The filmmaker has indeed taken a scenario imagined by the late Solveig Anspach, from a story freely inspired by her family.
As we indicated at the time of the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival 2021, where the film was selected, the director and screenwriter Solveig Anspach, who died in 2015, wanted at all costs to bring this romance – lived by her own mother – to the ‘screen.
Modest, yet terribly sensual, Les Jeunes Amants touches by its modernity by recounting the desires of a septuagenarian. The director plays, on numerous occasions, with the codes of melodrama, while carefully avoiding the pitfalls of the genre. She delicately places her camera on the face and body of an actress who assumes her reflection and whose beauty comes to overwhelm the spectators.
Cinema release February 2, 2022.
