This Wednesday, September 22, Disney + invites you to dive into the post-apocalyptic world of Y, the last man, whose first three episodes are available on the platform. Here are three things to know about this new Star Original series.
A MODERNIZED VERSION OF COMICS
Adapted from the graphic novels of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, the new anticipation series Y, the last man has just arrived in the world Star on Disney +, where subscribers can now find the first three episodes. It tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world in which all carriers of a Y chromosome have disappeared, except one …
If the showrunner and executive producer Eliza Clark was keen to remain faithful to the 60 volumes published between 2002 and 2008, she also sought to make the work more current, especially in terms of representation. “The comics are twenty years old. For me, one of the things that interested me the most about this adaptation was to use all the things that I love so much about these comics, but also to modernize them, ” she says.
Readers of graphic novels should therefore find in the series the universe they so appreciated on the pages, but also a world more anchored in our reality.

CHARACTERS CREATED FOR THE SERIES
The Y series, The Last Man features the main characters from the original comics, as new faces not found in the source material, which will be as much a discovery for viewers as for connoisseurs.
Yorick Brown, the sole survivor of the epidemic, is played by Ben Schnetzer (The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair). He must team up with Agent 355 (Ashley Romans) and geneticist Alison Mann (Diana Bang) to help them rebuild a better world. Other essential heroines of this story, Jennifer Brown and Hero Brown, respectively Yorick’s mother and sister, played by Diane Lane and Olivia Thirlby.
Among the new recruits, Elliot Fletcher (The Fosters, Shameless) lends his features to artist Sam Jordan, a trans man and Hero Brown’s best friend. Amber Tamblyn plays the author Kimberly Campbell Cunningham, daughter of the recently deceased president like her counterparts. Marin Ireland plays Nora Brady, the press secretary to the former president.

ONLY WOMEN BEHIND THE CAMERA
In front of and behind the camera, the creative teams and the cast of the series are predominantly female. At the helm of the ten episodes that make up the first season of Y, The Last Man, we find exclusively female directors, starting with Louise Friedberg (Borgen – A woman in power, In the name of the father) in charge of the first two episodes.
On the production side, the series also brings together executive producers Eliza Clark and Nina Jacobson (Pose), as well as many heads of departments, from design to costumes, including casting, editing and coordination of stunts. A project led by women therefore to tell the story of these survivors who will do everything to restore what has been lost and build something better!
