Once a staple with Live Gold subscribers, the free games program has lost its luster to Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft pushes the nail a little further by announcing a very big change.
Response to PS Plus and its free games offered monthly to subscribers, the Xbox Games with Gold program will make a very big change, which should please some players or not.
The end of an era for Xbox Games With Gold
A page will turn for Xbox Games with Gold. Currently, the four monthly free games consist of a portion of titles playable on Xbox Series and Xbox One, and another more retro dedicated to Xbox 360 games, but which remain accessible on other machines thanks to backward compatibility. A few weeks after the launch of the new PS Plus offers, Microsoft announces a major change.
As of October, Xbox Games With Gold will stop offering a duo of free Xbox 360 games. The publisher estimates that it has reached “ the limit of their capacity to offer them in the catalogue. What will not be said is that many players found that the program paled in comparison to the titles offered by its rival. Obviously, all 360 games claimed before will remain available in the library. The Redmond firm, however, did not specify its plans.
What the publisher doesn’t make clear is that this potentially means there will be two less free games per month. Microsoft has indeed not indicated if the program will always offer four titles or if it will be reduced to two. Response in the coming months.
