Xbox boss takes down Facebook and its metaverse

The very serious Wall Street Journal magazine had the opportunity to interview Phil Spencer, boss of Xbox, in particular to talk about the metaverse, Facebook’s mixed reality project which arouses as many passions as questions. And Xbox’s strongman doesn’t mince words about him

Phil Spencer explains in particular:

Video game creators have an incredible ability to create compelling worlds that we want to spend time in.

For me, building a metaverse that looks like a meeting room… I just find that’s not where I want to spend most of my time…

I tease a bit saying it’s a bad video game. Say II just think we’re ahead. The Metaverse is going to end up looking a lot more like video games than some of the patterns I see today.

Besides Xbox, he’s not the only big boss to be skeptical about the metaverse issue since, as reported by The Verge, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel explained:

It’s like living inside a computer The last thing I want to do when I come home from work at the end of a long day is live inside a computer.

As explained Le Figaro in a long dossier on the question of the metaverse and Facebook, Zuckerberg’s empire is clearly on the decline. We learn, for example, that the market value of the Meta group, which owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has been divided by three in almost a year. Figures that are not very reassuring for the metaverse project.

What do you think of Xbox boss Phil Specer about the Metaverse?
