James McAvoy said in a recent interview that he would be willing to return as Charles Xavier from the X-Men on one condition. His last appearance in the role dates back to “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” released in 2019.
James McAvoy aka Charles Xavier from the X-Men
In 2011, James McAvoy was chosen to play Charles Xavier aka Professor X in X-Men: The Beginning. He plays the young character, while Patrick Stewart is his older version. McAvoy will be Professor X in three other films: X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. He also makes an appearance in Deadpool 2.
But after the takeover of Fox by Disney, the future of the mutants remains uncertain. It’s obvious the studio is looking to bring them into the MCU, but we don’t yet know how they’ll come back to the forefront. They could take advantage of the arrival of the multiverse introduced in the series Loki to make their comeback, which would leave the possibility for the actors to come back.
James McAvoy back? He says yes on one condition
In a recent interview given to Comicbook.comJames McAvoy has said he could possibly reprise the role of Charles Xavier:
All I care about are good stories. When I was offered to play Charles the first time, it was a good story. It was a good script, I was very excited. If someone comes to me with a great script, I’m always up for it. I’m happy with Charles’ story, especially in the first two films. I got to explore some really cool things. So if I’m done with him, that’s fine with me. But I leave the door open. If someone comes to me with a good story, I would say yes. But it has to be good.
It would still seem more obvious that Disney wants to start from scratch with a whole new X-Men team and that they cast younger actors. But given the arrival of the multiverse, it wouldn’t be impossible to meet some known heads in future MCU movies or series.
