Currently filming near London, Paul King’s “Wonka” will tell the story of Willy Wonka’s debut, played by Timothée Chalamet. Other actors have just joined the project, thus constituting a five-star cast.
The director of Paddington behind the camera of Wonka
If Paul King’s name doesn’t ring a bell, it’s time to get up to speed. He is indeed the screenwriter and director of Paddington and Paddington 2, two great successes released in 2014 and 2017. Successes which played to designate him as director of the next musical film Wonka, prequel to the story of Charlie and the chocolate factory by Roald Dahl, already adapted several times to the cinema. The film has just started filming in England, and its release date is currently set for March 15, 2023. The film will look at the youth and early days of chocolate maker Willy Wonka. If the universe itself is already very attractive, then what about its five-star cast?
A cast of stars to tell the story of Roald Dahl’s hero
It has long been a question of a choice to be made between Tom Holland and Timothée Chalamet to play the character. It is finally the second who interprets the title role of Wonka, and it is a new major and popular role after that of Paul Atréides in Dune by Denis Villeneuve. Knowing that he will succeed Johnny Depp, who played the role in the 2005 film by Tim Burton, his performance should be closely scrutinized.
Around him, it is a parade of very great talents, British for the most part. Rowan Atkinson, eternal Mr. Bean, will be there, as well as Olivia Colman. If Rowan Atkinson has a very distant relationship with cinema, Olivia Colman is among the most requested actresses of the moment. We could see her recently in The Favorite (for which she receives Oscar for best actress), The Father, and we will soon discover it in The Lost Daughter by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Another first-class actress, Sally Hawkins, notably nominated for the Oscar for his performance in The Shape of Water, and already present in both films Paddington.
The rest of the cast include Keegan-Michael Key, Simon Farnaby and Jim Carter.
