While Paramount Pictures has formalized a third episode of “Without a noise”, the project is already encountering complications. Indeed Jeff Nichols, who replaced John Krasinski in the production, has just left the project.
Without a sound : big success for Paramount
In 2018, the actor, screenwriter and director John Krasinski shakes up horror movie fans with a work in the process of becoming cult: Without a sound. Brought to life by himself and his wife, Emily Blunt, Without a sound received largely positive professional and popular reviews. Nominated once at the Oscars, the film is a hit especially at the box office with more than $ 340 million in revenue for a budget of $ 17 million.
Faced with this economic triumph, Paramount decides to produce a sequel. Without a sound 2 has been delayed numerous times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but ended up being released on June 16 in theaters. John Krasinski came back behind the camera, while Cillian Murphy joined the cast of the first film. On the box office side, the work generated more than $ 297 million in revenue. Despite this less effective result, Paramount decided to start production of a third film.
Jeff Nichols quits directing third film
Initially, filmmaker Jeff Nichols, the director of Take Shelter and Midnight Special, was selected by Paramount to stage a third film. However, according to Deadline, the filmmaker has visibly abandoned the project, for the benefit of another film also produced by Paramount. The firm is therefore currently looking for a replacement to stage this third part, which should take the form of a spin-off.
Indeed, the idea comes from John Krasinski, who prefers to take spectators to new horizons, focusing on a new family. Thus, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt should logically not resume their respective roles. Obviously, this spin-off remains very secret, and we don’t yet know which characters the project will focus on. But our little finger tells us that the narrative might focus on Emmett’s past, played by Cillian Murphy.
