Crowned with a Grammy Award in the early 90s, the song “Summertime” signed by DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith, alias The Prince of Bel Air (The Fresh Prince in VO), will be the subject of a musical for the movie theater.
Chance is not lacking in irony. While the film Summertime by Carlos Lopez Estrada (co-director of Raya and the Last Dragon for Disney) has just been released in our theaters, Deadline reveals that a project with the same title is currently in development. And that it will also be a musical.
But the origin of this feature film, which will be Peter Saji (Black-ish) ‘s first film production, is astonishing to say the least. Because it will be inspired by the song “Summertime” from 1991, signed DJ Jazzy Jeff and a certain … Will Smith. Alias the Prince of Bel Air (The Fresh Prince in VO) at the time.
Included in the album “Homebase”, the hit became an anthem associated with summer, before being awarded a Grammy Award 30 years ago. If the synopsis of the film has not been released, Will Smith will produce it via his company Westbrook Studios, in partnership with Sony and Screen Gems.
