WILL SMITH. Before receiving the Best Actor Oscar for ‘The Williams Method’, Will Smith hit on comedian Chris Rock and caused unease in the Assembly. Back to the incident.
[Mis à jour le 28 mars 2022 à 6h37] But what happened in the head of Will Smith? This is the question asked by the public at the Oscars 2022, on the night of Sunday March 27 to Monday March 28, 2022. When comedian Chris Rock humorously evokes the shaved head of his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, the comparing to that of Demi Moore in the film A Equal Arms, the actor literally exploded. Will Smith stood up and punched Chris Rock, before yelling, “Leave my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!”
The sequence caused unease in the assembly. During the commercial break, Denzel Washington tried to calm the actor and his wife down. The actor was seen in tears during this sequence, probably measuring the scope of his gesture. Later, Will Smith received the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in The Williams Method. In a confused and tearful speech, he did not fail to apologize to the Academy and the other nominees, before recalling that he took his role as protector and father of the family very seriously. Relive the shock sequence of the Oscars 2022 in the video below:
Born September 25, 1968 in Pennsylvania, Will Smith is an American actor who saw his career take off in the 90s, with his role in the television series The prince of Bel-Air. He made a name for himself in the cinema thanks to his roles in blockbusters bad boys, independence day or Men in Black. Will Smith also has a career in music.
Willard Carroll Smith was born on September 25, 1968 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. His mother works in a school and his father is a technician. Second of a modest family of four children, the young Will Smith is a charming child: he is even nicknamed “prince” at his school, for his always very skilful way of getting out of problems. He was influenced at the age of 14 by Eddie Murphy and hip-hop singers. A brilliant student, Will Smith ends up giving up everything to devote himself exclusively to his musical career.
Will Smith meets Jeffrey Townes with whom he forms a group: DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. The duo is a great success. But Will Smith is a spendthrift and after buying a house and a few cars, the young man comes close to personal bankruptcy. An NBC producer then offers him to play in a sitcom where he should simply interpret his own role: a teenager from Philadelphia arriving at his rich uncle Phil’s house in Beverly hills. This is the starting point of the event series The prince of Bel-Air which will have six seasons.
The artist’s smile and immense sympathy capital do the rest. Wishing to move towards the cinema, Will Smith gets good reviews for his participation in the dramatic comedy Six degrees of separation, in 1993. But his primary concern is to become a big star. He is thus a shock policeman in bad boys released in 1995, a brave fighter pilot in independence day, in 1996. At the time, the film was the second-biggest commercial success. The following year, Will Smith also played a government agent in Men in Black. He continues to lead a brilliant career in rap with the tubes Gettin’ Jiggy Wit In, Just the Two of Us, Men in Black, Miami…
However, this systematic presence in a summer blockbuster ends up harming him: he is thus on the bill in 1999 of Wild Wild West critical failure for which he refuses the role of Neo in Matrix. This big career mistake will affect him enormously, to the point that the actor will now be more picky in his artistic choices. In the 2000s, Will Smith abandoned music and played for Robert Redford in the drama The Legend of Bagger Vance. He embodies an amazing Mohammed Ali in the biopic by Michael Mann, Ali in 2002. After two sequels to his previous hits, Men in Black II and Bad Boys II Will Smith plays for the first time since the end of the Prince of Bel-Air in a comedy: Hitch. In 2007, he surprised the public with his overwhelming performance in In search of happiness in the role of an unemployed father.
