While House Of The Dragon’s core revolves around the slowly escalating conflict between Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) and Alicent (Emily Carey) and their respective allies, there are of course numerous other storylines along the way. And at the end of episode 2 it becomes clear which of them is the most important for the time being: the conflict with the triarchy and their leader, the crab feeder, over the chain of islands of the stepping stones. But what exactly do all these terms mean?
The Stepping Stones are an island chain in the far south of Westeros – or more precisely: between Westeros and the eastern continent of Essos. Because of their location, they are of great strategic and economic importance in the relations between the Seven Kingdoms and the so-called Free Cities of Essos.
The Triachy is a federation of three of the Free Cities: Lys, Myr, and Tyrosh. All three cities have been featured in Game Of Thrones and have produced well-known characters: pirate captain Salladhor Saan (Lucian Msamati) hails from Lys, Thoros of Myr (Paul Kaye) bears his origins in his name, and Daario Naharis (Michiel Huisman) was born in Tyrosh born.

Craghas Drahar aka the Crab Feeder (Daniel Scott-Smith) is the leader of the Triarchy and conquered the stepping stones as their prince-admiral. He earned his nickname (originally “Crabfeeder”) because he fed his prisoners crabs and crabs. His face is disfigured, which is why he wears an iron mask. So he’s the sinister figure seen in the final moments of episode 2 (also see the cover of this article).
House Verlaryon is the greatest naval power in the known world and owes its wealth to trade by ship. Despite the family seat of Driftmark being located in Blackwater Bay much further north, Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) is keen to conquer the stepping stones and end the threat posed by the triarchy and their pirates.

We’ve already seen the first six episodes of “House Of The Dragon”, but of course we won’t spoil it at this point as to exactly how the triarchy and the stepping stones continue. But we can definitely reveal one thing: the conflict will remain an important topic in the upcoming episodes of “House Of The Dragon”.
