The film tells the story of Kya, a girl who grows up alone in the dangerous swamps of North Carolina and is abandoned by her parents. For years, rumors about ‘The Girl Who Lived in the Swamp’ have been a favorite subject of Barkley Cove residents. Even though Kya, a smart and emotional girl, stays away from town because of these rumors, she gets close with two young men and opens herself to the outside world. For Kya, everything about the ordinary world of the town is new and surprising; however, when one of the teenagers is found dead, Kya is named as the prime suspect by the townsfolk. As the case progresses, it becomes increasingly unclear what really happened, and the course of the case is about to reveal the many secrets the swamp hides…
