When “Star Wars” marries in music to “Kill Bill”

There are perfect musical compositions that one would love to hear in other films, accompanying other images. This is the case of “The Lonely Sheperd”, an iconic track from the soundtrack of “Kill Bill: Volume 1”, which a user of the reddit forum placed on a sequence of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”. And the marriage is perfect.

When the music is good

You had to dare, and a fan did it. 14 years separate the exits of Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), besides obviously these two films have absolutely nothing comparable. On the one hand, the first film of the great vengeful diptych of Quentin Tarantino, on the other the eighth opus – criticized – of the famous saga, directed by Rian Johnson. But a reddit forum user, u / PopeOwned, had the original and ultimately brilliant idea of bringing together these two worlds in music.

With a maneuver ultimately very simple, but still had to think about it: replace the music in the Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker showdown sequence with a piece from the soundtrack by Kill bill, the famous The Lonely Sheperd by Gheorghe Zamfir.

Genius or sacrilege?

One can imagine that some hardcore fans of Star wars jumped to the ceiling when they discovered this sequence. At the same time, Star Wars fans have been very critical of The Last Jedi, the most unloved opus among the nine films in the Skywalker saga. One of the other, we can at least all agree on the fact that the harmony between this lightsaber fight and the piece of Kill Bill: Volume 1 is absolutely perfect, and generates the emotion that was perhaps lacking in the original sequence.

In this scene, silent for a long time, where the emotions can be read above all on the faces of the actors Domnhall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver and Mark Hamill, it is clear that the addition of The Lonely Sheperd is indeed ideal, the rhythm of the staging perfectly matching that of the pan flute of the piece. Verdict: brilliant idea.
