Bad luck for Google and its video game streaming service. One of the games that had been negotiated exclusively on Stadia is one of the cards of recent weeks.
Still on life support, Stadia did not meet with the expected success. So much so that Google had suddenly separated from all its development studios and exclusive projects that were underway. And one of them is the game of the summer: The Quarry.
The Quarry should have been a Stadia exclusive
According to the sources ofAxios, the spiritual successor to Until Dawn should indeed have been a Stadia exclusive. 2K has indeed confirmed to the American media that it has become the publisher of The Quarry only towards the end of production. Same story for High on Life, the FPS from the creator of Rick & Morty which made a very noticeable appearance at the Xbox Summer Game Fest 2022 conference. Google was indeed looking to inflate its catalog of its service, deemed too poor during of its launch. Faced with commercial failure, the tech giant finally abandoned its projects and closed its in-house studios to focus only on games from third-party publishers.
A blessing in disguise in the end, since it allowed Supermassive Games to open its game to all platforms directly on release. The success was immediate and The Quarry is even one of the phenomena of the moment on Twitch. It remains to be seen whether the popularity will be reflected in the sales figures. Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear, Silent Hills) should also have created a game designed for the Cloud in partnership with Stadia, according to a serious rumor. Google, however, denied the existence of such a project. Death Stranding’s father finally found refuge at Microsoft, which will recover the game: a certain Overdose.
