The finale of the “Hawkeye” series, available on Disney +, offered an insight into Laura’s past. Clint Barton’s wife may well have a different identity. We let you discover which one in the article below. Beware, SPOILERS!
Hawkeye It’s over !
Series Hawkeye concluded with a sixth episode uploaded on Wednesday, December 22 on Disney +. During this season we were able to follow Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), damaged and tired superhero who wants to spend the Christmas holidays quietly with his family. Only, Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), a young woman who grew up with the desire to become as strong as Hawkeye, finds herself in a complicated situation after wanting to play vigilante in the Ronin costume. Clint recognizes his old outfit and realizes he needs to act. Throughout the episodes the duo will befriend and help each other facing the “tracksuit gang” which pursues them.
Thus, the series introduced an important figure like Maya, who will soon be entitled to his own series (Echo), and brought back familiar faces with Yelena (Florence Pugh) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio from Daredevil). There’s obviously one other person that Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are familiar with: Laura Barton. Wife of Clint, she had short appearances in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Marvel’s reveal about Laura
Still played by Linda Cardellini, Laura didn’t seem to have much importance being relegated to the role of mother. However, during the series, clues suggested that she could be much more. Before the final episode, we could clearly hear her talking about the boss of SHIELD, Nick Fury and communicating in German with her husband. Would she be a former agent? well the last minutes of episode 6 ofHawkeye seem to confirm it.
During several episodes, we were told abouta very important watch that Clint must recover at all costs. It was initially thought to be a tool that belonged to Tony Stark. But when Clint finally gives Laura the Rolex, Laura turns it over and lets see the SHIELD symbol with the number 19. We imagine that this refers directly to Agent 19 which Marvel fans also know by the code name “Mockingbird” (Mockingbird in original version).
In the comics, Mockingbird’s real identity is Barbara Morse. She meets Clint after he leaves the Avengers. They get married, but will divorce. Which is obviously not the case in the MCU. However, Barbara Morse has already appeared in another MCU series: Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. It was then interpreted by Adrianne Palicki. But, in this show, broadcast by ABC between 2013 and 2020, she did not wear the nickname of Mockingbird.
Thereby, Laura Barton could be Agent 19 and nothing prevents him from coexisting with Barbara Morse. It remains to be seen whether this was just a nod to convey that the mother of the family has had a tumultuous past, or whether she will return to duty in the future.
