In an interview withAllocinatedHarlan Coben said he was conquered by the adaptation of Do not tell anyone : “Guillaume Canet, unlike many directors who wanted to make a good big thrillerunderstood that it was really a love story revolving around the character of François Cluzet […] That’s what captivates us as an audience. That’s what attracts me as a writer. I was really excited about the movie.”
Second film directed by Guillaume Canet and big success (more than 3 million admissions in France), Do not tell anyone is an adaptation of Harlan Coben’s eponymous best-selling thriller, which has sold over six million copies worldwide. The film’s soundtrack was composed by Mathieu Chédid and won the latter the César for best music in 2007. The film won three other Césars, including those for best director and best actor (for François Cluzet).
Synopsis – Alex (François Cluzet) and Margot (Marie-Josée Croze) form a happy and fulfilling couple: they have known each other since childhood. Every year, they carve in one stroke the tree under which they kissed for the first time. Their life changes, however, the day Margot is kidnapped and brutally murdered by a serial killer. Her father, Jacques Laurentin (André Dussolier), a police officer, formally recognizes the damaged body of his daughter. Totally destroyed, Alex dwells day after day on the overwhelming memory of his lost love. He takes refuge headlong into work. Eight years later, on the anniversary of their first kiss, Alex receives an anonymous email. He clicks: an image… the face of a woman in the middle of a crowd, filmed in real time. That of Margot… Then begins an investigation that will lead Alex to discover a truth that he was far from imagining.
