BRIDGERTON. “The Bridgerton Chronicle” will be back for season 3. Date, plot, casting… Here’s everything we know about the sequel to Netflix’s event series.
Fans of Lady Wishtledown gossip can rest assured. The Chronicle of the Bridgertons, will come back for a season 3 and even for a season 4! It must be said that the romantic series from Netflix is a real success for the streaming platform. Just three days after its launch, season 2 had already recorded 193 million hours of viewing, making it the biggest launch of an English-language series on the platform streaming.
For now, the return date of The Bridgerton Chronicle season 3 is unknown. According to Nicola Coughlan, filming should begin in the summer of 2022. We can therefore expect a release a few months later, most likely in 2023. The main plot of this sequel has also not been confirmed. If we follow the order of Julia Quinn’s books, the romance of Benedict, the second child of the Bridgerton siblings, should be at the heart of the story.
But it is not impossible that the writers change the order of the books to focus on the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington already approached since season 1. On the casting side, Ashley Simone confirmed that she would be back in the guise of Kate and that her story with Anthony would once again be deepened in this sequel.
Which character is at the heart of the intrigue of Bridgerton season 3?
As for the cast of The Bridgerton Chronicle season 3, Simone Ashley has confirmed that Anthony and Kate will be back and their relationship will be explored further in this sequel. However, she did not specify which character the plot would center on. If Netflix decides to follow the chronology of the books, this new burst of episodes should concern the romance between Benedict Bridgerton, who will fall in love with Sophie Beckett, the illegitimate daughter of an earl.
Shonda Rhimes had however announced that the series would not necessarily follow the chronology of the novels: “There are eight Bridgerton children so we plan to follow the romantic stories of each of them. Nevertheless, we are not necessarily going to follow the ‘order of the books but each will have its story”, she assured Entertainment Tonight. Indeed, the romance between Colin and Penelope is already beginning to be told in season 2. However, they are only the protagonists of the fourth novel, therefore potentially season 4. Unless there is a change of order in the chronology of the series. We are still awaiting confirmation from Netflix to learn more.
Netflix revealed the synopsis for season 2 of The Bridgerton Chronicle in a press release: “Lord Anthony Bridgerton, Viscount and eldest of his siblings, sets out in search of a most respectable wife. If he is convinced that it is his duty to preserve the Bridgertons name, his efforts to find a young girl to match his mad demands seem futile.Until Kate and her younger sister Edwina Sharma arrive from India. When Anthony begins courting Edwina, Kate understands his true intentions – he is in no way seeking to marry for love – and decides to do everything possible to prevent this union.
But the speckled foil exchanges between Kate and Anthony only bring them closer to each other, complicating the situation for everyone… On the other side of Grosvenor Square, the Featheringtons must welcome their new heir, while Penelope tries to establish her position in high society, while say simulating his most unmentionable secret to those close to him.”
Regé-Jean Page achieved worldwide success by interpreting Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, in The Bridgerton Chronicle. But the comedian announced in April 2021 that he will not appear in the sequel to the series. It should therefore be absent from season 2, devoted to the romance between Anthony and Kate. To justify his departure, Regé-Jean Page spoke to Variety about his discussion with the production before season 1, which had told him that each season was independent and had a specific plot: “I said to myself, ‘It’s interesting because it felt like a limited series.
