Up there fans: Doug, the unforgettable four-legged companion in the Disney animated film Pixar, is the hero of a collection of short films on Disney +. Here are five things to know about adorable dog misadventures!
A SUITE TO THE FILM THERE
Available on Disney +, the collection of shorts Welcome to Doug takes place after the events of the animated film Up there. In the credits, viewers find Carl Fredricksen and his faithful companion Doug in search of a new home, before settling in a house similar to the old man’s former home.
The adorable golden retriever’s new daily life is punctuated by humorous misadventures told from his point of view in this Disney + Original series.
THE SAME TEAM IN CONTROL
The five Welcome Home shorts were written and directed by Bob Peterson, who is none other than the co-director of Up there with Pete Docter. Nominated at the Oscars in 2010 for the screenplay of the animated film Disney Pixar, he is here surrounded by producer Kim Collins, who had also collaborated on the successful feature film.
A MEMORABLE VOICE
In the original version, the inimitable Ed Asner once again lends his voice to the grumpy Carl Fredricksen, whom he had already dubbed in 2009 in Up there. Still very faithful to the small screen despite his advanced age, this role marks one of his last projects before his disappearance last August. A very nice tribute for all fans of this prolific actor, also known for his interpretation of Lou Grant in The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
A STAMP THAT HAS THE DOG
To give the answer to the grumpy old man in Welcome to Doug, the director and screenwriter Bob Peterson has once again put on his dubbing cap: he lends his voice to this touching dog capable of speaking thanks to his collar. Far from being a first for him, he had already dubbed the characters of Germaine in Monstres & Cie and Monsieur Raie in Finding Nemo, before playing Doug and Alpha in Up there.
OTHER ROCAMBOLESQUE ADVENTURES
Before becoming the hero of Bienvenue chez Doug, the endearing pooch has already had the right to a solo adventure in the short film Doug on a special mission, to be found now on Disney +. In it, Alpha, Omega, and Beta give Doug unlikely missions to exclude him from their search for a rare bird.
The Dog from Up there also appears in the astonishing short film George & AJ, which features the two nurses responsible for taking Carl to a retirement home at the start of the animated film. It is also available on the platform.
