In the series “Marvel mal Anders” our expert Sebastian takes on forgotten film adaptations of the comic forge. Today: the unfortunately rather lame Death of the Uncanny Hulk with Lou Ferrigno from 1990. Here is the video:
In our video series on the unknown and forgotten Marvel films of the past, we are now in the 90s: Death of the Scary Hulk is a 1990 TV movie that last starred Bill Bixby as David (not Bruce!) Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk.
But unlike its predecessors “Return of the Uncanny Hulk” (1988) and “The Uncanny Hulk Trial” (1989), YouTube host and Marvel expert Sebastian is far less impressed this time. “The Death of the Creepy Hulk” is unfortunately not a successful conclusion to the otherwise very fun TV film trilogy.
The plot of “The Death of the Uncanny Hulk”
As the title suggests, Death of the Uncanny Hulk revolves around David Banner finally wanting to get rid of his Rage Monster alter ego. That’s why he sneaks into a research laboratory disguised as a caretaker in order to secretly develop a cure (“Good Will Hunting” says hello). For this, he leads the work of the scientist Dr. Pratt (Philip Sterling) continues.
At the same time, a Russian spy named Jasmin (Elizabeth Gracen) is attached to Dr. Pratt’s research is interesting because her clients want to use it to breed their own super soldiers. When Jasmine and Banner/Hulk finally meet, they fall in love and work together from then on…
that was in”Avengers 2: Age Of Ultron” better
A romance between Banner/Hulk and Black Widow (who is never named that in The Death of the Uncanny Hulk but is inspired by it)? You know that from the MCU too! In “Avengers 2: Age Of Ultron”, however, the relationship between the two characters is much more believable and touching than here.
The rest of the story of “The Death of the Uncanny Hulk” is just as dull, lame and superficial as the love story between Banner and Jasmine, which a few nice Hulk scenes don’t change anything – the green rage monster runs through walls here, for example, and stops huge shovel excavators.
