The CW is in the process of developing a prequel to “Walker,” the reboot of “Walker, Texas Ranger,” which will take place at the end of the 19th century and follow one of the famous Ranger’s ancestors.
Welcome to the Walker Texas Ranger Universe! After Walker, the reboot of the cult series launched last January, the CW has just announced the development of an “origin story” series called Walker: Independence.
Produced by Jared Padalecki (who plays Corben Walker in the reboot), Anna Fricke (creator and showrunner of Walker), Seamus Fahey, Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore, Walker: Independence will take place in the late 1800s and follow Abby Walker, a wealthy Bostonian whose husband was assassinated in front of her during their trip to the great West.
Eager for revenge, Abby crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins, an outlaw in search of a goal. Abby and Hoyt’s journey takes them to Independence, Texas, where they meet eclectic locals who flee the demons of their past and pursue their dreams of wealth. But in this changing little town, nothing seems to be what it seems.
For now, it is not known if and / or how Abby Walker and Hoyt Rawlins, who therefore evolve in the 19th century, will be linked to Abeline Walker (Molly Hagan) and her sons, Cordell Walker (Padalecki) and Liam Walker ( Keegan Allen), as well as Cordell’s best friend, Hoyt Rawlins (Matt Barr).
As a reminder, Walker is the reboot of Chuck Norris’ popular series, Walker, Texas Ranger. Worn by Jared Padalecki (Supernatural), it follows the adventures of Cordell Walker, a widower with two children, as he returns home to Austin after being undercover for 2 years.
From its launch, the series enjoyed immediate success, quickly becoming the CW’s most-watched series. It is therefore not surprising that the American chain already very accustomed to franchises (the Arrowverse, that’s them) is embarking on the adventure of the prequel.
Bad news for those who would like to discover Walker, the series still does not have a French broadcasting channel …
