"Vinland Saga S2" director explains reason for studio choice

A few weeks ago we already reported that the second season of »Vinland Saga« will be created in the MAPPA studio and the director has not promised any qualitative restrictions. Well were more details known about the background to the change.

Team had to be held together

So explained director Shuuhei Yabuta that the studio change from WIT to MAPPA was not planned and that he had personal reasons. There would have been no prospects of further cooperation with WIT Studio and the whole team would have had to leave the company. At this point, production of the second season would already have started.

For this reason it would have been important to him to keep the team together as much as possible. He would have had several studios interested in collaborating on Vinland Saga Season 2, but MAPPA won:

»Of the many options I had, Studio MAPPA made the quickest decision. Furthermore, they respected the work of our production team up to this point and also understood how important it is to keep the old team together«, wrote Shuuhei Yabuta on Twitter.

The second season of »Vinland Saga« will be broadcast on Japanese television from January 2023. In addition to director Shuuhei Yabuta, Hiroshi Seko and Kenta Ishihara are also on board as screenwriters and Takahiko Abiru as character designer.
