“Sunyata – The desire for revenge” takes place in St. Michael, a tranquil, previously extremely peaceful village in the Alps. Suddenly, however, a series of very strange, seemingly supernatural deaths occur there. For some of them, the circumstances clearly point to suicide. Others appear to be clear murders. In any case, the local police (Elyse Levesque, Vladimir Burlakov) are puzzled.
In the course of their investigation, the officers then come to the conclusion that a mystical, old board game must play a significant role in these cases. A group of young people had found it and handled it thoughtlessly. Each participant has to take turns describing their revenge fantasies. The one with the greatest anger gets his wish granted by the dark force behind the game, but pays a high price himself.
The best living proof of the mischief that is being wreaked here is the lonely and reclusive Lea (Veronica Ferres). As a young girl (in retrospect: Gina Stiebitz) she once took part in such a round and still suffers from the cruel aftermath. Could Leah be the key to ending the atrocities?
“Sunyata – The desire for revenge” will be released in Germany on October 28, 2022 on Blu-ray and DVD. Both formats with FSK-16 approval can already be pre-ordered from online providers such as Amazon:

“Sunyata – The Desire for Revenge” or “The Darker The Lake”, as the film is called in the English language original, was produced with money from Hong Kong. So it’s little wonder that the financiers used Lok Kwan Woo, a director and screenwriter from there. Especially since Woo speaks perfect English, since she has lived in Los Angeles for ten years and has already directed two feature films there with “White Terror” and “Angels Never Cry”.
From a local point of view, the biggest names on the cast list are certainly Veronica Ferres (“Das Superweib”) and Gina Stiebitz, who achieved world fame with her role as Franziska Doppler in the Netflix megahit “Dark”. Other prominent faces in the international cast include the Canadian Elyse Levesque (“Stargate Universe”, “The Originals”), the Russian Vladimir Burlakov (“Kleo”) and the Viennese Valerie Huber, known from “Kitz” and “Immenhof 1 + 2”.
