Check out the trailer for the horror movie “Venus” starring Ester Expósito above. The film is directed by Jaume Balagueró, notably famous for having staged [REC] in 2008.
Venus: what is this horror movie with Ester Expósito?
If you are a fan of horror films, the name Jaume Balagueró will not be foreign to you. Indeed, it is to him that we owe in particular The Nameless Sect, Malevolence and especially REC released in 2008. After a detour through the heist film (The Vault released in 2021), the Spanish director returns to pure horror with Venus. Second feature of the horror anthology The Fear Collection produced by Alex de la Iglesia, it is adapted from a short story by HP Lovecraft.
The pitch:
A dancer steals a bag from the nightclub where she works. Pursued by a horde of thugs, she hides in her sister’s apartment. The problem is that the place where she has decided to take refuge seems to harbor a more powerful threat than the men who want to hunt him down.
In the role of the dancer, we find the young actress Ester Expósito, especially famous for having interpreted the role of Carl in the Netflix series Elite.

The film is loosely inspired by the horror short story The Witch’s House by Lovecraft published in 1933. It was part of the cycle of the Cthulhu mythos.
In the short story, a young student occupies a room said to be haunted by the spirit of a old witch having escaped the Salem massacre. Every night he dreams that the witch visits him. Nightmares that become more and more realistic.
When coming to the Catalonia Film Festival, Balaguero said (via SF News):
When Alex called me to direct Venus, I immediately accepted. I thought about what would happen if we took Lovecraft’s universe of cosmic horror and transposed it to the modern world (…)
When can we see the film?
In Spain, the feature film will be presented next month at the Sitges festival. It will then be released in Spanish cinemas December 2. In France, the film should be released at the end of the year directly on Amazon Prime Video. Patience !
