While “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” has just been released in theaters, the most observant of you will have noticed this little tribute to the big boss of Marvel Comics: the late Stan Lee.
Venom 2 : the film is finally in theaters
After a first opus released in 2018, Sony has just unveiled Venom: Let There Be Carnage. A sequel that features the terrible Carnage, a cult antagonist of the black symbiote, played here by Woody Harrelson. While the first part was directed by Ruben Fleischer (Welcome to Zombieland), this sequel is directed by Andy Serkis. Casting side, Tom Hardy is back in the skin of Eddie Brock and Michelle Williams is back in the role of Anne Weyins. Naomie Harris and Stephen Graham also join the cast of this second opus.
The traditional tribute to Stan Lee
Like any good Marvel movie, Venom: Let There Be Carnage offers his little tribute to Stan Lee. The latter, who died on November 12, 2018, used to appear in all Marvel films. Born in 1922, Stan Lee started out as a comic book writer before taking over as Marvel Comics boss. Along with his friend Jack Kirby, he invented most of the famous heroes of The House of Ideas. Since the early 2000s, “Stan the Man” as he called himself, had become accustomed to to appear in Marvel film productions for a short streak. Like Alfred Hitchcock in his own films, Stan Lee came to rub shoulders with his heroes on the screen.
Unfortunately, now that Stan Lee is no longer of this world. It is therefore difficult for Marvel productions to bring back their creator. However, Venom: Let There Be Carnage finds a way to pay homage to Stan Lee. And rather than recreating it digitally, Andy Serkis preferred to offer a simple nod to “Stan the Man”. While Stan Lee was already appearing in Venom at the very end of the movie, he’s back in this sequel on a magazine.
The Stan Lee tribute sequence takes place at the start of the film. A quick wink that occurs when Eddie walks to his neighborhood convenience store. As usual, Eddie goes to his usual grocery store to buy some chocolate from Venom. He took the opportunity to greet Ms. Chen, still embodied by Peggy Lu. But this bow may not have been addressed only to Ms. Chen. Indeed when Venom says hello to the grocer, in front of the cash register thrones various magazines. On the cover of one of them, the most observant will have noticed a portrait of Stan Lee. A short appearance, which allows however to perpetuate the tradition of Stan Lee cameos! While waiting to find this cameo at the cinema, we leave you with some images of Venom: Let There Be Carnage :
