The new Marvel, The Eternals, takes the lead at the US box office by a large margin, relegating Dune to second place, ahead of Dying Can Wait which continues to hang on.

TO REMEMBER
For its first weekend of operation in the United States, The Eternals raised $ 71 million. A score that would be considered very good for many feature films but which disappoints when it comes to a film from the Marvel team. Chloé Zhao’s work thus starts below estimates, with specialists aiming for an introduction between 75 and 85 million.
Worn in particular by Angelina Jolie and Game of Thrones stars, The Eternals achieved the fifth weakest start in a Marvel movie (ahead of Thor, Captain America: First Avenger, Ant-Man and The Incredible Hulk).
However, it remains the fourth best start since the start of the pandemic, behind … three productions from the Maison des Idées (Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings)! And this, despite very mixed reviews.
At the global box office, The Eternals, on the other hand, is doing better than other Marvel films since it has already grossed $ 161.7 million, making it the second best start of 2021 behind Fast & Furious 9.
The only other novelty to slip into the Top 10 of the weekend is Spencer (8th), the biopic of Lady Di with Kristen Stewart in the title role. Broadcast on less than 1,000 screens, it managed to rake in $ 2.1 million.
Still on the podium but far behind Les Éternels, Dune and To die can wait continue their little journey. Venom: Let There Be Carnage moves up one place in the rankings and is approaching $ 200 million in revenue.
The animated film Ron unlocks and Wes Anderson’s new feature film, The French Dispatch, also regain places while Halloween kills tumbles from second to seventh.
