“Under the girls’ skirts”, a comedy written and directed by Audrey Dana, honors a large number of actresses. But how did the legendary Isabelle Adjani join the project?
Under girls’ skirts : a feminine comedy
Under girls’ skirts tells the story of many women in our time. Among them, mothers, wives, singles or even mistresses. Each, on the scale of its own existence, experience very specific problems. But the destinies of the different protagonists soon intersect – For better or for worse ! Audrey Dana, actress and director, wanted to shoot a film around the female gender.
An idea, which, as she explains to Allocinated, came to him after a discussion with Gilles Lellouche. Both shared a discussion after the screening of the film The unfaithful. During the latter, Audrey Dana came to the conclusion that French comedy was only rarely shot from a non-male point of view. A mission that the actress has decided to take up! Also, she carried out quite original documentation work.
The artist thus interviewed several hundred interlocutors, to whom she asked one and the same question: what does it mean to be a woman in the 21st century ? A basis on which she was then able to begin to weave the stories and issues of her heroines. For the record, Under girls’ skirts is written, directed and mostly starred by women!
An exceptional distribution
Audrey Dana, herself in the casting of her feature film, surrounds herself with a beautiful band of actresses. We can thus find Audrey Fleurot (A French town), Vanessa Paradis (The Heartbreaker), Alice Belaidi (The Office of Legends), Marina Hands (Lady Chatterley), Sylvie Testud (Runaway), Geraldine Nakache (Everything that shines) or even Alice Taglioni (Lining). Among all this beautiful world, how not to notice the presence of an iconic actress of French cinemanamely Isabelle Adjani (Queen Margot)?
During the feature film, the character of the one who camped Camille Claudel realizes that the fateful hour of menopause has come. An upheaval for the sublime fifty-something, who sees her daily life completely turned upside down. The beginning of an existential crisis for a colorful character that Isabelle Adjani brilliantly embodies! But how did she join the feature film? At the microphone of Europe 1, the star explains that it was his agent who first mentioned the project to him. However, this idea of a “girl band” did not really please Isabelle Adjani :
I didn’t really want to.
His lack of interest, however, did not prevent his representative from insisting! The actress remembers that she was also the last arrival among the actors. In fact, the character that was offered to him was already very accomplished and visibly quite far from his personality in the city. Finally, the actress manages to let herself be convinced to meet Audrey Dana. Their exchange is going wonderfully and passion like accessibility of the director then persuades Adjani to let himself be tempted.
She spoke to me about her film for several hours.
A almost missed date which shows that it is sometimes good not to stick to one’s initial positions!
