According to the news of BBC Turkish, Ukrainian President Volodomir Zelenskiy’s TV series Servant of the People, which was broadcast in his own country before entering politics and in which he played the leading role, became popular again. A Swedish agency, which holds the broadcasting rights of the series, announced that they sold the popular TV series to 15 countries last week.
Making a statement to the AFP News Agency, Nicola Soderlund, one of the partners of the agency called Eccho Rights, stated that they are in talks with 20 countries, apart from sales to 15 countries. The series, which is called “The People’s Servant” according to its Turkish equivalent, was broadcast between 2015 – 2019. Zelensky played the history teacher Vasily Goloborodko in the series.
The character is elected head of state thanks to the popular votes, who are fed up with the system, thanks to a press release that went viral in the series. The name of the ruling party, in which Zelenskiy currently runs the country, was inspired by the story in the series. People’s Servant Party was officially registered with the Ministry of Justice on March 31, 2018. The company, which holds the rights to the series, added that they are also in talks with Netflix.
