We will have to wait a little longer than expected to see “Transformers” and “Star Trek” again on the big screen: the next installments have been postponed, respectively, to June and December 2023.

Optimus Prime and the Enterprise will be staying in the garage a little longer. Paramount has indeed postponed the release dates of the next installments of the Transformers and Star Trek sagas in the cinema. In the case of the franchise launched by Michael Bay in 2007, the postponement is significant since the new film is postponed from June 24, 2022 to… June 9, 2023.
The studio did not specify the reason for the huge postponement, but it is all the more surprising that filming for Transformers – Rise of the Beasts has just wrapped up under the direction of Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II ). Led by Anthony Ramos (Where we come from) and Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah), the feature film will transport us to the four corners of the world and into the 90s. Beast Wars animated series (Animators in VF).
For the moment, only the new American date has been announced. But, if we follow the logic of blockbusters of this caliber, the feature film should be visible at the same time in France. What is certain is that Transformers – Rise of the Beasts seizes the niche which was reserved for Star Trek 4. Which thus moves on December 22, 2023.
A date so far reserved by Disney and Star Wars – Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron, filming of which will begin later than planned. Last I heard, there was no question of delaying the release, but the change made by Paramount suggests that it will probably be the case. And that another great science fiction saga will spend Christmas 2023 in theaters.
Passed through the hands of SJ Clarkson (director of episodes of Jessica Jones or Orange is the New Black) and Noah Hawley (creator of Legion and Fargo), the film is currently entrusted to Matt Shakman, who directed WandaVision. And that’s one of the few things that is known at the moment, as the synopsis has not been released, nor has it been said whether Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will be back in front of the camera.
In 2018, the project was indeed undermined by disagreements over salaries. And especially that of Chris Pine. Or Chris Hemsworth. Interpreter of Kirk’s father in the opening scene of JJ Abrams’ reboot, the latter should have made his comeback thanks to a story of family reunion and time travel. An idea that may have since been abandoned, but we’ll know more when the project gives more concrete news.
