After proudly wearing the tights and saving the world multiple times in the MCU movies, two actors from the famous Avengers gang will play legends from the Golden Age of Hollywood. It’s going to dance!
From one cinema to another
This is called making a big gap, even a very big one. After having made millions of spectators dream by interpreting two famous superheroes, Spider-Man and Captain America, Tom Holland and Chris Evans will perform two legends of cinema, dancers and actors Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. They will each do it in their own movie. Tom Holland’s should be a biopic, while Chris Evans’s should be a different kind. Whatever happens, it’s already refreshing news for the careers of these two stars, who for the moment remain very identified with their respective roles in the MCU.
Tom Holland in Fred Astaire
The choice of the young actor of the moment in the role of actor and dancer Fred Astaire, model performer of the genre of musical comedy, tastes of the obvious. Like Fred Astaire, who started dancing very early on the stage, Tom Holland was only 12 years old when he joined the troupe of the musical in 2008. Billy Elliott. Two years later, he left her to get into the cinema and start the meteoric career that we know him.
He has been the titular Spider-Man since 2016 and has appeared in the costume six times, seven if you count his cameo in the post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Tom Holland has the opportunity to show himself in a different register, which in addition to touching a “classic” cinema will allow him to assert his qualities as a dancer, already seen in particular in his exceptional interpretation of Umbrella.
We know that the biopic project will be produced by Amy Pascal, producer of the films Spiderman since 2017 and therefore close collaborator of Tom Holland. It was the actor himself who first mentioned this project in an interview given to GQ. He confirmed this during the promotional tour for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Chris Evans as Gene Kelly
Another legendary figure of Broadway and Hollywood, Gene Kelly will therefore be played by Chris Evans. The development of his project is different from that of Tom Holland. Indeed, it is Chris Evans himself who brought the original idea for the film, which will focus on a 12-year-old boy who worked at MGM studios in 1952. While working on the next film by star Gene Kelly, it will be invented an imaginary friendship with him. To carry out this project on which Chris Evans is also a producer, he will be notably associated with the production company Rian Johnson and John Logan. The latter will also be writing the screenplay, and that’s great news. We owe him the scenarios of, among others, Gladiator, Aviator, Sky Fall, Spectrum and Penny Dreadful television side. Excuse the little.
In 1952, the period which will be that of the film, Gene Kelly has just played in An American in Paris and above all ensures the co-production and the main role of the legendary Let’s sing in the rain. Perhaps we will be able to see Chris Evans remake cult sequences from this film ….
