Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham and and and: The “The Expendables” franchise undoubtedly draws its main appeal from the show of numerous action icons. The series may not exploit the full potential of this unprecedented ensemble, but it still offers fans of the old-school genre cinema of the 80s plenty of brutal firefights and fistfights that go hand in hand with lots of bloodshed and even more fun – at least if you watch the whole thing uncut.
And precisely because of the latter restriction, we can do that for you Double feature from The Expendables and The Expendables 2 airing today, October 13, 2022 at 8:15 p.m. on Voxunfortunately do not recommend.
Since the first two “Expendables” parts are both approved for over 18s and FSK 18 films can only be shown uncut on television after 11 p.m., the scissors have now been used for the earlier broadcast – and not too tight, especially in the case of the first part. After all, it even runs at 8:15 p.m., at a time when only content with a maximum of 12 is allowed to flicker across the screens. And so “The Expendables” is missing a whole ten (!) minutes at prime time on Vox. Of course you still get to see the stars mentioned. The action, for which they were thrown together here in the first place, runs on the back burner in this version and without any violent peaks.
In the case of “The Expendables 2”, which will be shown afterwards, a version will probably be used in which “only” a good three minutes were cut out. But that also reduces the viewing pleasure considerably, especially since in terms of leaden action, a whole shovel is actually put on top of it and the dream trio Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis are finally sent into battle together.
Especially in the case of “The Expendables 2” we can definitely recommend the uncut version. This is available on DVD and Blu-ray, for example, or currently also on the Sky streaming service WOW (formerly Sky Ticket).

By the way, the Expendables will soon be back in action on the big screen, guaranteed to be unabridged. Slated to hit theaters in September 2023, The Expendables 4 will feature high-profile newcomers such as Tony Jaa, Andy Garcia, 50 Cent and Megan Fox, alongside returning cast members Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture. As a villain, the mercenary troupe around Barney Ross stands in the way of “The Raid” star Iko Uwais this time.
