With “Doctor Strange 2” is Sam Raimi’s latest Marvel film adaptation in cinemas. However, his most entertaining comic adventures for many superhero fans are by far “Spider-Man 1+2” – which are running in doubles on TV tonight.
For horror enthusiasts, Sam Raimi will forever be the man to thank for the Devil’s Dance series. But the cult director has also made many friends among superhero fans over the past three decades with a number of films – from “Darkman” to “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness”, but above all probably with his mega-popular “Spider-Man” trilogy.
Even before comic film adaptations gained a completely new status in cinemas, mainly through the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Raimi inspired the mass audience with his three-part series about the friendly spider next door and delivered three veritable mega hits that made their way into the annual cinema charts in each case only the really big competition like “Harry Potter’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ had to give up. In terms of box office results, they have long since been overtaken by numerous MCU chapters, but we still consider them to be among the best Marvel adaptations of all time – and therefore we can of course only make a recommendation if “Spider-Man” and “Spider-Man 2” on Nitro today, May 17, 2022 from 8:15 p.m to run.
The broadcast is particularly worthwhile for those without a streaming subscription, who can also look forward to “Spider-Man 3” (also on Nitro) tomorrow at prime time. However, if you have subscribed to one of the major streaming services, you can watch the Spidey adventures with Tobey Maguire much more flexibly and optionally in the original English version. The “Spider-Man” trilogy is currently available on Amazon Prime Video as well as on Sky and Sky Ticket. After all, Netflix has part 1 in its range.

“Spider-Man”: Superhero cult that lives on even after 20 years
With “Spider-Man” and “Spider-Man 2”, Sam Raimi succeeded in telling a comedic coming-of-age story in which some scenes are even reminiscent of slapstick, while at the same time showing Peter Parker’s career with the necessary emotional impact to substantiate in order to actually root for, suffer with and love the teenager who has mutated from a sly one to a spider man. The icing on the cake is, of course, Raimi’s unique joy in staging, which, coupled with Danny Elfman’s outstanding score and the Oscar-nominated special effects, ensures a gripping action spectacle that still impresses today.
The first two “Spider-Man” films with Tobey Maguire are not only among the most popular comic book adaptations that shaped the modern superhero film, but also received them – as Marvel fans certainly know, even without the rest of us at this point want to spoiler – recently increased attention again. Regarding a possible “Spider-Man 4”, Raimi, who has now realized that the MCU obviously has no limits, recently said that he was not sure whether Marvel would be interested in it, but that the project sounds “wonderful”.
