It’s really a bit unfair: Not only is Ant-Man (at least in a shrunken form) the smallest of all MCU heroes and heroines, the previous films “Ant-Man” and “Ant-Man And The Wasp” also have one For some reason I don’t understand, it’s got a reputation for being the go-to or skip-to-skip movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
No matter where you look at the user ratings for the MCU films: significantly fewer votes were cast than for other Marvel titles from this period. So both “Doctor Strange” as well as “Thor 3” or “Guardians Of The Galaxy 2”, for example, on the largest internet rating platform IMDb, about twice as many ratings as “Ant-Man And The Wasp”. And there is a similar picture in the user area of DashFUN.
Above all, “Ant-Man And The Wasp” is, so to speak, the unloved stepchild of the MCU, and it’s a particularly bad thing here. Because when I – together with my colleagues Tobias and Sebastian – completed another complete MCU rewatch in Corona year 2021, I noticed again what a great film “Ant-Man And The Wasp” actually is.
So if you haven’t got plans tonight, I’d strongly recommend Ant-Man And The Wasp. The MCU adventure airs Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 8:15 p.m. on SAT.1. Ad-free, in 4K quality and, if desired, also in the English-language original, “Ant-Man 2” is of course also available on Disney+:
» “Ant-Man And The Wasp” on Disney+*
Why should movie fans in general, and MCU fans in particular, give Ant-Man And The Wasp a chance now? Very fundamentally: Because the film is probably the most important bridge between the MCU milestones “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame“ (we don’t want to reveal more here).
But you don’t even have to look at the big picture Avengers-Watch the universe: “Ant-Man 2” is such an absolutely wonderful experience. Ensure the great chemistry between Scott Lang aka Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne aka Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), the great supporting characters (Michael Peña as Luis!) and the wonderful dynamic in Scott’s blended family.
The scenes between Scott and his daughter Cassie (Abby Ryder Fortson) are sweet as candy and absolutely heartwarming, but just as beautiful is the warm relationship with Scott’s ex-wife Maggie (Judy Greer) and her new husband Paxton (Bobby Cannavale), which is not untypical for Hollywood quarrels and dramatic entanglements, but is characterized by mutual affection.

2022 Disney and its affiliates.
The relationship between Scott (Paul Rudd) and his daughter Cassie (Abby Ryder Fortson) is at the heart of Ant-Man And The Wasp.
And even the main villain, Sonny Burch (Walton Goggins), is a refreshing change of pace in the MCUbecause he has no superpowers and is neither an evil reflection of the hero (like Yellowjacket in “Ant-Man” or just about any other MCU villain) nor an overpowering threat à la Thanos.
If you add that the extremely on-point humor (“Ant-Man 2” is without question one of the funniest MCU films!) and the wonderfully creative action scenesin which director Peyton Reed and his team make full use of their character’s ability to shrink and enlarge (keyword: PEZ dispenser), the result is one of the most successful, funny, beautiful, in short: best MCU films.
Incidentally, we recorded the MCU rewatch mentioned above in a three-part podcast retrospective. Below we have packed the three big screen love episodes into a playlist. We’ll talk about “Ant-Man” in episode 2, about “Ant-Man And The Wasp” in episode 3 (and Tobias and Sebastian are just as excited as I am, by the way):
