Action is extremely popular among Netflix users. Hardly any other title has proven this as impressively as “Tyler Rake: Extraction”. Can “Interceptor” become a similar colossal streaming hit? In any case, Chris Hemsworth is on board again.
The antagonist of “Interceptor” is Alexander Kessel (Luke Bracey), a bitter ex-US agent turned domestic terrorist. He and his henchmen have captured a ship with 16 live nuclear missiles. One of the missiles is aimed at a missile intercept base located on an artificial island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Kessel plans to take out the facility, which is under the command of Captain JJ Collins (Elsa Pataky), before attacking various major cities in the western United States.
Collins was just mourning the loss of her comfortable job at the Pentagon, which she had to leave for this unattractive post. But now she is more than relieved to be there and to be able to use her many years of tactical training and experience in close combat. Time is of the essence and Collins is the last hope for millions of people who don’t even know their lives are at stake. Will the soldier be able to stop Kessel from turning his insane plan into reality?
Interceptor premieres on June 3, 2022, worldwide and exclusively on Netflix.
Mr. & Mrs. Hemsworth trained together
The thriller was directed by bestselling Australian author Matthew Reilly (“The Secret Runners of New York”), making his directorial debut. Reilly wrote the screenplay in cooperation with Stuart Beattie, the author of screen hits such as “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Collateral”.
Marvel superstar Chris Hemsworth (“Thor 1 – 4”) served as executive producer. In addition, his buddy Sam Hargrave, the director of “Tyler Rake: Extraction” acted as a consultant for the big action sequences of the Netflix original.
Hemsworth’s wife Elsa Pataky, known for Fast & Furious 5-8 and Operation: 12 Strong, stars in Interceptor. The Madrilenian, who measures just 161 centimeters, had trained for six months in preparation for the shoot in order to credibly embody her part as a tough fighter. According to her own statement, she was repeatedly assisted by her husband. Overall, Pataky studied over 800 stunts and action moves for the film. Also in attendance are Luke Bracey (“Hacksaw Ridge”) and Aaron Glenane from the “Snowpiercer” TV series.
