The vice-president of Marvel Games spoke about the idea of having an MCU for video games as well as for films or series. Will Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Marvel’s Wolverine or even EA’s Iron Man project have a shared universe?
With every Marvel game released or in production, everyone wondered if the company wanted to create an MGU, Marvel Gaming Universe, to emulate the MCU.
Soon a Marvel Gaming Universe to go with the MCU?
The answer will likely disappoint fans, but no, there won’t be an MCU equivalent for Marvel video games. Bill Rosemann, vice president and creative director of Marvel Games, gave his views during an interview.
The world is surprisingly very familiar with the multiverse and accepts it. There are all these different realities and we want to give everyone the freedom to tell their story. We don’t want to tell them “You can’t blow up the moon, because this game from another studio needs the moon”. We want to give everyone the freedom and the means to tell their story.
The developers of Insomniac Games with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine, of Motive Studio for their game Iron Man or the creator ofUncharted with its title involving Captain America and Black Panther will therefore not have to scrutinize their respective work to integrate them within the same universe. A point that will perhaps relieve others, tired of having to watch each Marvel film or series to detect all the subtleties.
On your side, would you have preferred an MCU for the Marvel games? Or are you relieved that Marvel Games is trying to copy its cinematic universe at all costs? Tell us everything comments.
