We take stock of the novelties of July and the current series to be discovered on Netflix, Canal +, OCS, Amazon or which will debut in the US. On the program of horror with Swamp Thing and the series The Grudge, fantasy with Cursed or even romantic-comedy with Love Life.
Swamp Thing – from July 1st on Amazon Prime Video
The story of Swamp Thing: The appearance of a deadly virus prompts CDC researcher Abby Arcane to return to her hometown, in the heart of the Louisiana swamps. She very quickly finds an unexpected help in the person of Alec Holland, a scientist with astonishing theories. The latter is unfortunately tragically taken away from him. As supernatural forces emerge, Abby soon realizes that the Creature she saw emerging out of the water is none other than Alec himself.
The teaser :
Why watch: Swamp Thing is a DC Universe series and was unseen in France until now. It is good news that it arrives on Amazon because the proposal is interesting: to approach the super-heroic universe by the horror. Unfortunately the series was canceled before it even aired. The production therefore reassembled the series so that it could last over ten episodes.
Ju-On Origins – from July 3 on Netflix
The story of Ju-On Origins : A paranormal hunter desperately searches for a cursed house where a mother and child were the victims of a drama long ago.
The teaser :
Why watch: in France the Ju-on saga is better known under the title The Grudge. Several films have been made, as well as remakes, always with the same theme of haunted house. Ju-on is a classic of J-Horror (Japanese horror cinema) so we are very curious to see what this serial adaptation by Netflix will give.
Stateless – from July 8 on Netflix
The story of Stateless : Four foreigners find themselves stranded in an Australian immigrant detention center. Each character approaches the contradictions of border protection and control from their perspective.
The teaser :
Why watch: Beyond her story which promises to be relevant, Stateless has with her a cast of choice: Yvonne Strahovski in the main role, but also Dominic West and Cate Blanchett. The latter is also at the creation of the show.
Love life – from July 9 on OCS
The story of Love live : Each season will retrace a different protagonist’s quest for love, and each episode will tell the story of one of their relationships. The first season centers around Darby.
The teaser :
Why watch: Love Life is the first creation of the new American platform HBO Max. If his story is nothing revolutionary, the series still benefits from the very nice Anna Kendrick, who alone justifies that we are interested in the program.
Brassic season 2 – from July 13 on Canal + Séries
Brassic’s story: In Lancashire, England, a bunch of crazy friends try to find easy money and always find themselves in perilous situations. Vinnie, their “leader”, also suffers from bipolar disorder.
The teaser :
Why watch: With Brassic we find everything we love in English series. A sticky style, crazy but endearing characters and situations as improbable as they are hilarious. The first season was great fun, so we can’t wait to see what happens next.
Cursed – from July 17 on Netflix
Cursed’s story: In this rereading of the Arthurian legend, Nimue combines his young forces with those of the mercenary Arthur to go in search of Merlin and an ancient sword.
The teaser :
Why watch: According to its trailer, we say to ourselves that with Cursed it will be all or nothing. Either an interesting and original proposal of a fantastic universe, or a complete failure. For the moment, we remain moderately convinced by these images but the presence of Katherine Langford in a completely different genre than 13 Reasons Why has something to intrigue.
Normal People – from July 18 on STARZPLAY
The story of Normal People : The complicated relationship between Marianne and Connell from their school days in a small town in the west of Ireland to their university studies at Trinity College.
The teaser :
Why watch: Normal People is one of the surprises of the year. Based on the eponymous novel by Sally Rooney, the series received very good feedback from critics and viewers when it aired in the United States and England. We are promised a fusional and exciting love story.
