The story of “Top Gun : Maverick” is a continuation of “Top Gun” and intensely brings to life the memory of “Goose”, the former teammate of “Maverick” who died during training. What did his interpreter, actor Anthony Edwards, think of this sequel?
“Goose”, a pillar of legend Top Gun
Actor Anthony Edwards, currently in the cast of the Netflix film The top of the basketrose to fame with his role as “Goose” in Top Gunthen in the series Emergency room where he played Dr. Mark Greene. In Top Gun, he is thus the teammate of “Maverick”, his navigator and weapons system officer. Partner and friend of the pilot played by Tom Cruise, Nick “Goose” Bradshaw dies following an accident during training, the ejection of his seat propelling him violently against the canopy of their F-14 which had gone into a spin. An event which is the main dramatic issue of Top Gunand which finds its extension in Top Gun : Maverick
Logically physically absent from the sequel, his character is nevertheless everywhere, since his son Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller) occupies one of the main rolesand has a very complicated relationship with “Maverick”, which he holds responsible for his father’s death. As for “Maverick”, he still suffers from the disappearance of his friend, and has not closed his mourning.
Anthony Edwards says: ‘Mission accomplished’
Personally invited by Tom Cruise to a private screening, in the company of his son Bailey, himself an actor, Anthony Edwards opened up on the microphone ofEntertainment Weekly about his feelings about Top Gun : Maverick.
We saw it in the Dolby room here in New York, with the best possible sound, and there were just eight of us. It was fantastic. (…) The public had particular feelings on the first film, and this one makes exactly this feeling of first time, but even stronger. As I said to Tom: “mission accomplished”. They did it. They really did. It’s a titanic job. There is the right feeling, there is the right tone, there is what the public expected.
So Anthony Edwards shows up very convinced by the movie. And we imagine that he must have been personally touched by the tribute also paid to him Top Gun : Maverick.
