Expected for two years, the sequel to Tony Scott’s “Top Gun” will premiere at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. Produced by Tom Cruise, who is reprising his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell for the occasion, “Top Gun: Maverick” should cause a stir.
Top Gun: Maverick premiered at Cannes
Alongside its competition, which will present and distinguish the most demanding of world cinema, the Festival de Cannes will show the “planetary blockbuster” in the words of its general delegate Thierry Frémaux, Top Gun: Maverick. The rumor ran and it was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Presumably out of competition, the film directed by Joseph Kosinski could be screened a few days before its release in French cinemas, set for May 25. Something to delight fans of the 1986 film. As well as sit the legend of Tom Cruise a little more, and show expected practical and special effects prowess.
30 years later, Tom Cruise returns to the Croisette
Yes Top Gun: Maverick is a pure, big-budget, mainstream Hollywood blockbuster, its presence in the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival is not anecdotal. Indeed, it should symbolize the return to normality after two years of pandemics and the upheavals caused for the world cinema industry. Such a film at Cannes is maximum publicity for Hollywood, with the appearance of one of its greatest promoters in the person of actor and producer Tom Cruise. Who knows, maybe even fighter planes will put on a show in the Mediterranean sky on this occasion?
For Tom Cruise, it is also the first time in 30 years and distant horizons that a film where he appears is presented there. An event in itself, and there will therefore be entertainment on-screen and on the red carpet, since Top Gun: Maverick is led by a class casting. Around Tom Cruise, we will notably find Val Kilmer in his role of Iceman, and newcomers like Miles Teller, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm, and Jennifer Connelly. We can not wait to be there!
