Jennifer Connelly, partner of Tom Cruise in “Top Gun : Maverick”, has nothing but admiring words for the actor, and even claims that he deserves his nomination for the Oscar for Best Actor 2023.
Jennifer Connelly, a significant return
Actress Jennifer Connelly has been rather rare on the big screen in recent years. With the exception of a supporting role in Alita: Battle Angel in 2019, we had indeed only seen it, from afar, in the 2010s which mainly alternated the anecdotal and the critical failure. But her return to feature films in 2022 was spectacular, since she played Penny Benjamin in Top Gun : Maverick, in other words the one that cracked “Maverick” twice. If his character is only mentioned in the Top Gun of Tony Scott, he is very present in his sequel, and Jennifer Connelly perfectly embodies the fighter pilot’s partner played by Tom Cruise.

First Tom Cruise fan
As the announcement of the 2023 Oscar nominations takes place on January 24the actress recently spoke out on whether Tom Cruise might be in the running for Oscar for Best Actor. This is how during an interview given as part of the Sundance festival that Jennifer Connelly had these words:
I think that “Top Gun : Maverick” is a very well done film and it’s very hard to make a film like that. (…) Also, regarding Tom’s work, think about what he had to accomplish for this role. more than all the ground work, and beyond how great he is in these scenes and creating these relationships… I find the relationship with the character of Miles Teller to be so beautiful and moving. he did to accomplish the aerial sequences, that’s really something.
Tom is extraordinary. He is as a person and he’s fantastic as an actor, he’s just perfect. He embodies his character beautifully, and I think he absolutely deserves this nomination.
Top Gun : Maverick should be a serious contender for several awards at the 95th Academy Awards, in the “technical” categories and also in the category of Best film. Regarding Tom Cruise, the question has been raised, but competition is fierce for the Best Actor Oscar. Indeed, at least Austin Butler in ElvisColin Farrell in The Banshees of Inisherin and Brendan Fraser in The Whale go one step ahead. But who knows, maybe Jennifer Connelly’s wish – and probably that of millions of Tom Cruise fans – will be granted!
