In “Top Gun : Maverick”, “Maverick” reunites with his great friend “Iceman”, 36 years after they met in “Top Gun”. A friendship on screen and in the city, which Val Kilmer honored by sending a sweet birthday message to Tom Cruise, who celebrated his 60th birthday.
“Iceman” and “Maverick”, Hollywood’s top bromance
It’s only a tweet, and yet… No doubt a detail for some, but for the millions of fans of the two characters and the two actors, it means a lot. Actor Val Kilmer, who shares with Tom Cruise a joint launch of their careers at the highest level with Top Gun in 1986, took to Twitter to send his playing partner and friend his 60th birthday wishes. After their moving reunion in Top Gun : Maverickone of the peaks of this blockbuster to great success, the interpreter of Tom “Iceman” Kazansky has decided to keep the flame of their friendship alive on the screen as in the city.
“Happy Birthday Mav from Ice!”
No image this time around, unlike Instagram where Val Kilmer recently celebrated Top Gun : Maverick with several visuals from both films, but a simple phrase from his character “Iceman” to “Maverick”, that of Tom Cruise.
Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer, never 2 without 3?
Is there a future where the two actors could put on their flight suits again and play their roles in the saga one last time? Top Gun ? Never say never, but the probability is very low for the moment. It is indeed only “only” in Top Gun and Top Gun : Maverick that Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise collaborated, a small anomaly given the longevity of their careers.

The two actors could however have found themselves long before Top Gun : Maverick. More precisely in 2004, for one of the great thrillers of the time : Collateral. Indeed, in this film by Michael Mann where Tom Cruise plays a hitman who takes a taxi driver (Jamie Foxx) hostage, so that he drives him to the place of his “contracts”, Val Kilmer must have been at the cast. Originally, the role of Detective Fanning had been offered to himbut committed to alexanderthe actor of The Doors had to decline. What would have given a second collaboration with Michael Mann, who had offered him one of his greatest roles in Heat, where he played gangster Chris Shiherlis. Finally, it is to Mark Ruffalo that returned this role.
Whatever the future may hold for us, it would be a great event to find Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer in an upcoming feature film, and for their face-to-face to continue.
