Unable to be able to go out to a nightclub due to the health crisis, we take you to the best clubs through the cinema. Several films have been able to offer mythical scenes in parties. Here is a short selection.
Evenings in Miami are worth the detour! Especially when Michael Mann is there to film what is going on. The proof with Miami vice which opens on a great sequence in a nightclub. In a matter of minutes, the pieces Numb / Again by Linkin Park and Jay Z, a remix of Sinnerman by Nina Simone and a remix of Strick Machine by Goldfrapp follow each other with astonishing fluidity as the filmmaker captures the faces of Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. A sequence which, through details, already establishes the personality of the characters, their links and what they will have to face. Of course, we could put in this top another great moment signed Michael Mann, with the club scene Collateral, this time in Los Angeles.
Obviously, nightclubs are really perfect for opening a movie. The proof once again with Blade which begins with a boy embarking on a strange evening. We quickly understand that the people around him have other intentions towards him. The scene explodes for the first time when blood falls on a crowd of raving vampires carried away by the bass of Drama (Extended Dance) by Ruthless E. Then a second time when Wesley Snipes finally arrives. Suddenly he unleashes a shotgun and silver stakes. To note that Blade 2 also offers us a long memorable passage in a nightclub in the middle of vampires.
In a more humorous genre, we had to stall Four boys with a future, French cult comedy from the 1990s. A long passage that sees Arnaud and his band of losers return to the Pasha by posing as the inventor of the Rubik’s Cube. Follows laborious dredging attempts like that of Arnaud, which will nevertheless have an unexpected success with Anne.
It’s hard not to dream of Rome in front The great bellezza. All the more so with its scene of evening on the roof of a villa. Obviously, the director Paolo Sorrentino here has a cynical look at the mundane society that his hero, embodied by Toni Servillo, can no longer support. The latter also appears after several minutes during which the night world is not so highlighted. This does not prevent the sequence from being absolutely fascinating and intoxicating, carried by the song Far amore by Raffaella Carrà remixed by Bob Sinclar.
We couldn’t talk about a nightclub without mentioning Saturday night fever. Disco atmosphere and trouser legs for John Travolta who is living his best years on Brooklyn dance floors. It is the film of the revelation for the actor who will have made dream of it with his swaying on You should be dancing of the Bee Gees. A sequence so striking that it will be parodied a few years later in Is there a pilot on the plane ?.
To end in style, unot particularly hot scene with Double Bodysuit. A film within the film, or rather a clip. That of Frankie Goes To Hollywood and its title Relax which was to be used for the promotion of Brian de Palma’s film. But he finally decided to include it directly in his film. We find the character of Jake Scully (Craig Wasson) taken to a club where dancing is almost secondary. Finally, arrived in the toilet where sways Melanie Griffith, we understand that all this is only the shooting of a pornographic film. A memorable moment marked by this line: “I Like to watch” (I like to watch).
There are many other scenes in clubs that we could have mentioned. But failing to name all the films that have taken advantage of nightclubs, you can find them below. Thanks to an awesome medley offered by Youtubeur Antonion Maria Da Silva who imagines the Hell’s Club where fictional characters like Terminator, Obi-Wan Kenobi or Tony Montana could meet.
