As at the end of the year, it is time to take stock of the films discovered in 2021. Here are the Top 10 of the best films released in theaters or on streaming platforms for the editorial staff of DashFUN.
A complicated but rich year for cinema
This year 2021 was still very complicated for audiovisual productions. With the Covid pandemic, French theaters were closed for many months, between October 30, 2020 and May 19, 2021 to be exact. As a result, films were postponed and distributors had to make adjustments. Some films went directly to the VOD box, while others wisely waited for theaters to open again, even if it meant getting lost in a traffic jam of releases.
Nevertheless, 2021 will have given us beautiful moments, both in theaters and on streaming platforms. We are therefore taking advantage of this end of the year to unveil our Top 2021, with the ten films that have marked the editorial staff of DashFUN this year. Details: the films are not classified in order of preference but by release date.
“After The songs that my brothers taught me (2015) and The Rider (2017), Chloé Zhao continues to grow with Nomadland. A beautiful work on the nomadic way of life carried by a great Frances McDormand and superb images of nature which continues to inspire the director. “

“Monumental, total, dazzling, Dune version Denis Villeneuve pays homage both to the work of Frank Herbert and to cinema in its most powerful form. We may regret a relegation of the development of the characters to the background, without this detracting from the film its undeniable and immense qualities. A brilliant lesson in cinema and science fiction. “

“Ridley Scott shows impressive mastery with The Last Duel, historical drama from which he withdraws all romanticism in favor of a chilling realism. A film perfectly interpreted by Jodie Comer, Matt Damon and Adam Driver. “

Aline (November 10)
“Aline is a real success, both on the subtle evocation of Celine Dion’s life via an original transfer to her fictional double Aline, and on the bluffing interpretation of Valérie Lemercier. “

“With The event, Audrey Diwan launches into a subject with a formidable actress, for whom she creates an original cinema, at the same time graceful and violent, intimate and universal. A film whose power and mastery are exceptional. “

“Jane Campion heals her return to feature film with the very beautiful The Power of the Dog, ambitious work on the violence of masculinity and also that of fraternal and filial love. Benedict Cumberbatch is stratospheric in this work which leaves a lasting impression on his sensations. “

“You shouldn’t have to compete with the 1961 masterpiece, and Steven Spielberg understood this well by keeping a perfect distance from his manners and his words. The right distance to turn everything upside down, to put pressure on it. gravity where it was necessary to register “his” West Side Story in our time, to tell a love story, but above all a collective story overflowing with humanity. “

“The Card Counter is a pure concentrate of the themes and the style of Paul Schrader, beautifully embodied by Oscar Isaac. An abysmal darkness with no way out to see if you have your heart set on it. “
