On April 8, 2022, the apocalyptic blockbuster “I Am Legend” will be shown on free TV. After the slap in the face at this year’s Oscars, the recently announced sequel “I Am Legend 2” with Will Smith seems to be ill-fated.

Warner Bros.

This year’s Oscars will be talked about for years to come. Not because of the films that were honored or passed over there, but because of Will Smith. After a gag at the expense of his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, he felt compelled to step on stage and give Chris Rock a good slap in the face. A knee-jerk reaction that went around the world – and will certainly be discussed for a long time to come.

Subsequently, Will Smith was awarded the Academy Award in the category of Best Actor for his performance in the biopic “King Richard” and should actually have arrived at the peak of his work. In fact. Instead, the career of the “Bad Boys” and “Men in Black” stars got a real kink due to the slap in the face.

Not only on social media but also in various daily newspapers and TV shows, there is a heated discussion about what consequences Will Smith must now face. After the actor had not already been expelled from the Oscars event, despite his violent assault on Chris Rock, now, more than a week after the scandal, the aftermath of the freak is becoming clear.

Consequences for Will Smith – what does this mean for “I Am Legend 2”?

Physical violence in response to a verbal attack? This goes too far. Various film studios take a similar view and don’t want to work with Will Smith anymore, at least not in the near future. Both Netflix (“Fast & Loose”) and Sony (“Bad Boys 4”) have put current Smith films on hold for the time being. Whether there will be new appointments or the projects will be canceled entirely remains to be seen.

Another problem child is likely to be “I Am Legend 2”, which was only announced a few weeks ago, which, like “Bad Boys 4” and “Fast & Loose”, will certainly not develop as smoothly as those responsible had hoped. Will Smith would reappear alongside “Creed” boxer Michael B. Jordan and fight for his life a second time in a post-apocalyptic America.

It remains to be seen whether Warner Bros. will also decide to stop production of “I Am Legend 2” for the time being or will throw Will Smith out of the project in order to focus fully on Michael B. Jordan. In any case, we probably won’t get the “I Am Legend” sequel that was originally planned. And the whole project will probably be delayed considerably.

“I Am Legend” runs on April 8, 2022 at 10:35 p.m. on ProSieben. Incidentally, the end-time horror film is currently also available as a Netflix subscription. On Blu-ray, you can get the film with a longer cut version including an alternative ending. In addition, “I Am Legend” is based on the classic novel of the same name by Richard Matheson and tells the story of the (supposedly) last human being on earth.

That’s what “I Am Legend” is about

Robert Neville (Will Smith) is the last survivor after a supposed miracle cure wiped out almost all of humanity. The majority of those infected have died, and a small proportion has mutated into light-shy, instinct-driven creatures. So Robert now lives in deserted New York, with only his faithful sheepdog Sam, who once belonged to his daughter.

During the day, the military scientist roams the area, hunting wild animals and sending radio messages in hopes of reaching other survivors. At night he barricades himself from the monsters outside and works on a vaccine in his lab. When Neville captures the alpha female of the zombie-like beings, the creatures suddenly develop a form of intelligence and attack him harder than ever.
