Young Lieutenant Pete Mitchell (Tom Cruise), known only as Maverick, is an adventurous fighter pilot in the United States Navy. On a sticky mission, Maverick and his weapons systems officer, Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards), must disobey orders from their commander, Stinger (James Tolkan), to help a comrade who is unable to react due to a panic attack.
As a result, Maverick and Goose are used in training at the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School. Here Maverick meets pilot Tom “Iceman” Kazanski (Val Kilmer) and a bitter rivalry develops between the two men. Followers of “Top Gun” had to wait a long time, but on May 26th the time has finally come: With “Top Gun: Maverick’ the belated sequel to Tony Scott’s cult film is finally coming to German cinemas. That “Top Gun’ is being broadcast on free TV today, so it’s no coincidence. And at this point I would like to recommend one more thing to you: If you do not know the original and intend toTop Gun 2” in the cinema, you absolutely have to catch up!
Then “Top Gun: Maverick“ refers not only aesthetically, but above all to the content of the first part and draws the majority of its emotional implications from it. But that shouldn’t make you want to see the first part again (or finally). The fact that the film was able to trigger such a boom is not without reason: this film is pure fetish. Everything action grandmaster Tony Scott stages here looks incredibly iconic. Be it the fighter planes taking off and landing before sunset or the sweaty male bodies competing in volleyball.
