The US director Edward Zwick is more than solid on the credit side with titles like “Last Samurai”, “Glory” or “Legends of Passion”. However, here at DashFUN we consider “Blood Diamond” to be his best work. Our official 4.5-star review of the film states: “At its core, ‘Blood Diamond’ is extremely classic and exciting adventure cinema that does without any superfluous frills. Instead of narcissistic twists and turns, you get a thriller story that is only interrupted by the carefully selected action sequences that never degenerate into mere ends in themselves and is otherwise extremely straightforward.“
In addition, our editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen expressly praises the leading actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Djimon Hounsou in their excitingly ambivalent parts in his review. Special “Titanic”Beau DiCaprio, as a mix of ruthless profiteer and man with disarming rascal charm, would never lose the sympathy of the audience despite the darker side of the character. The rest of the DashFUN editorial staff also like the thematically ambitious and dedicated “Blood Diamond” so much that we included it in our list of the best adventure films of all time. There he ranks directly between “Life Of Pi” and “Stand By Me”:
“Blood Diamond” is on October 2, 2022 at 8:15 p.m. on RTL 2. However, since the entire title is only released by the FSK from the age of 16 and things get pretty serious in terms of violence and emotionally intense scenes, unfortunately only a cut version can be broadcast during prime time. The broadcaster may only show the uncut version when the repeat is running. This starts the same night at 1.55 a.m.
If both dates don’t suit you, there are alternatives. Alternatively, you can watch the uncut Blood Diamond anytime as part of your Netflix streaming subscription. Or you can simply order the work, which has received five Oscar nominations, as a Blu-ray or DVD from online retailers such as Amazon:

Delivering top performances in “Blood Diamond”: Leonardo DiCaprio (left) and Djimon Hounsou.
Set in 1990 in the civil war-torn West African country of Sierra Leone, the film follows the paths of Rhodesian smuggler Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) and local, almost penniless fisherman Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou). The unlikely duo form a partnership of convenience in pursuit of a giant pink diamond. This was once found and hidden by Vandy and could radically change both of their lives.
With the money from the sale of the gemstone, Archer would finally leave the misery of war behind and move to a safe country. Vandy, on the other hand, hopes to redeem his young son Dia (Kagiso Kuypers), who is being forced by the rebels to fight as a child soldier. However, the men are of course not the only ones who want to get hold of the diamond.
The rebel army and a mercenary force led by the brutal Colonel Coetzee (Arnold Vosloo), who Archer once belonged to, are also involved and do not shy away from the use of force. Thankfully, Archer recently met investigative journalist Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly). The American offers the duo logistical help. In exchange, however, she demands exclusive insider information for a story about illegal diamond smuggling and its international backers…
