Attention trash lovers! Today, Tuesday, a sci-fi rip-off from the trash drawer celebrates its free TV premiere with “Monster Hunters”. The notorious mockbuster forge The Asylum is once again responsible for this…

The production forge The Asylum has made a name for itself through its countless mockbusters. These are trashy twists on popular blockbusters that don’t care about almost any quality standard. Famous examples are the “Sharknado” series, “Triassic World”, “Ape Vs. Monster”, “Titanic II” and also “Atlantic Rim: Resurrection“.
This concept becomes particularly tricky when not only the posters are almost identical to the high-budget models, but also the titles. “Monster Hunters”, which celebrates its free TV premiere today on May 17 at 10 p.m. on Tele 5, naturally has nothing to do with Paul WS Anderson’s game adaptation “Monster Hunter” from 2020. Instead, you have to deal with an alien invasion that puts all of humanity in danger.
If you can’t make it tonight to see “Monster Hunters” on TV, you can also watch the sci-fi trash by subscribing to Amazon Prime Video, where the film is currently included:

That’s what “Monster Hunters” is about
In the not too distant future, an alien prison ship crashes in the middle of the Californian desert and malicious creatures from an alien world begin a merciless hunt for humanity. The only hope now lies with the Nevada-based Alien Defense Unit, which has been trained to destroy aliens under the command of Colonel Mayweather (Tom Sizemore).
Secret weapon technology is available to the military unit for this purpose. However, the troops are still very inexperienced and have not yet had a single real combat mission. Too bad she’s up against an army of monsters that are the most evil thing the entire universe has to offer! When a gigantic mother ship emerges from the black depths of space, the total apocalypse finally threatens.
Invasion from space – but only for trash friends
Originally, “Monster Hunters” was actually intended as a mockbuster answer to “Monster Hunter” starring Milla Jovovich and Tony Jaa. With filming delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Asylum simply concocted a classic alien invasion scenario here, that, as expected, is not stingy with bad CGI effects, weak acting and highly embarrassing dialogues.
With an IMDb average of 2.2 stars out of 10, Monster Hunters still ranks above most Asylum productions. In this case, the creators can even enjoy some well-meaning reviews on the Internet, which at least describe the sci-fi actioner as “brainless fun” describe. You shouldn’t hope for more from Brendan Petrizzo’s (“Triassic Hunt”) cheap tearjerker.
But if you want to enjoy really good sci-fi cinema again, we have a real insider tip for you. On July 22, 2022, “Phase IV” will be released on Blu-ray for the very first time. The mixture of animal horror and sci-fi dystopia has lost none of its fascination even after 50 years – and is a real eye-catcher in every collection in the shapely Limited Collector’s Edition!
