“Devotion” tells the true story of the Navy’s first African-American commercial pilot, Jesse Brown (Jonathan Majors) and his wingman, Thomas Hudner (Glen Powell). The film is based on the bestseller of the same name by Adam Makos. The trailer, which now prepares us for the theatrical release planned for 2022, not only gives an idea of a thrilling rescue mission, but also indicates several times that what it means to be a black man in the US Navy in the 1950s is being negotiated.
The main role is embodied by Jonathan Majors, whom Marvel fans are watching with particular interest. After appearing as “He Who Remains” in “Loki” last year, namely, majors will be of great importance to the MCU in the years to come as Kang the Conqueror – most notably as a major villain in the recently announced “Avengers 5: The Kang Dynasty”. In addition, Glen Powell plays the second leading role, who appears in “Top Gun: Maverick” when Hangman was already gaining experience as a Navy aviator.
Other well-known names in the cast include Christina Jackson (“The Night House”), which plays Brown’s wife Daisy, and singer Joe Jonas. Directed by JD Dillard (“Sweetheart”). Cameraman Erik Messerschmidt, who won an Oscar for “Mank” two years ago, should hopefully provide some impressive pictures, which can at least be guessed at in the trailer.
Sony currently has no specific theatrical release date for “Devotion” announced in Germany. In the United States, the aviator action drama is scheduled for release on November 23, 2022.
