Popular social media platform TikTok will also organize a short film competition as part of the agreement.
The Cannes Film Festival, which once banned even taking selfies on the red carpet, joins forces with TikTok, the most popular short video application of recent years. TikTok, the most popular internet service, surpassing even Google in 2021, announced that it has become the official partner of the Cannes Film Festival, which will start on May 17.
Cannes wants to take advantage of TikTok’s strong user base, which includes billions of people from all over the world. The behind-the-scenes footage of the festival, various interviews, and red carpet footage will be published on TikTok, and users of the application will be able to watch this content comfortably. On the other hand, TikTok, which is trying to position itself as a content production platform, will also increase its reputation by taking the power of the Cannes Film Festival.
Depending on the sponsorship agreement, TikTok, owned by the Chinese company Bytedance, will also organize a short film competition at the festival. TikTok films, whose duration can be between 30 seconds and 3 minutes, will be evaluated by a preliminary jury in the competition called #TikTokShortFilm, and then three awards will be distributed at an event in Cannes with the participation of director Thierry Frémaux. TikTok announced that the first jury will be chaired by a famous director, which will be announced later.
