Anyone who is one of the more than 800,000 people who have already seen “Ticket ins Paradies” in the cinema and also – like the majority – enjoyed the German dubbed version, may have been surprised by George Clooney’s voice. It is an astonishment that probably also surprises one or the other at the “Star Wars”-series “Andor” and you will encounter it even more frequently in the future. Because one of the big names in the dubbing industry has retired, at least in this area.
Dubbing legend Detlef Bierstedt recently revealed in an interview Mass Taste TVthat he had already decided a few months ago not to accept any more dubbing jobs. This concerns above all (but not only) George Clooney.
Bierstedt was already heard as George Clooney in “Emergency Room” and also in around 30 film roles. For the past 15 years, he’s been Clooney’s only voice actor when he’s been on camera as an actor. But that was not always so. Because from 2001 to 2007, Bierstedt almost took turns with his colleague Martin Umbach on George Clooney. Umbach voiced the US superstar primarily in the “Ocean’s Eleven” trilogy, but also in “Syriana” and “Solaris”.
And you may have already guessed: Martin Umbach has now been brought back for George Clooney when Bierstedt canceled due to his synchro retirement. So you’re hearing a kind of new voice on Clooney in Ticket to Paradise, one that hasn’t been heard on the superstar since 2007’s Ocean’s Thirteen, but it’s still kind of familiar at the same time. Because you’ve heard it on him several times before.
With more than 2000 speaking roles according to the dubbing file, Detlef Bierstedt was incredibly active and dubbed numerous other stars alongside George Clooney on a regular basis. Among them are, for example, Bill Pullman or John C. Reilly. So we will have to prepare for some changes – some of which you may have heard in the past few weeks.
Bierstedt was Stellan Skarsgård’s regular speaker for many years. In his mini-appearance in “Thor 4: Love And Thunder” you may not have noticed that there is a different voice to be heard. At the latest in theStar Wars”-Series “Andor“But many people might notice at the moment that the Swede sounds different in the German synchro. Douglas Welbat now voices him on both occasions. He has also voiced Skarsgård in a few previous films. We expect that he will also appear in “Dune 2” and will succeed Bierstedt in the event of further Marvel appearances by Skarsgård.
Speaking of Marvel. Are you looking forward to more from “Kingpin” Vincent D’Onofrio? After the Netflix series Daredevil and his MCU debut in Hawkeye, that’s what we’re supposed to get. In the series “Echo” and “Daredevil: Born Again“He’s there, there are even rumors about “Spider-Man 4”. We will also hear him in a different German voice. “Hawkeye” was probably Bierstedt’s last assignment on Vincent D’Onofrio.
A similar change is also expectedStar Trek“ fans. Bierstedt also speaks Jonathan Frakes very often – not only in the cult format “X-Factor”, but also in its various “Star Trek’ appearances as William Riker. Bierstedt was still heard on Frakes for the guest appearances in the second season of “Picard”. When he is back in a larger role in the third season, another speaker should also be used.
That’s a shame for fans, of course, but it’s completely understandable that the busy Bierstedt, at 70, wants to take things a little easier. In the interview already mentioned, he explains these motives very well:
