Some time after the announcement of the feature film “Thunderbolts”, Marvel presented the characters who would appear in this team. If we could hope for a few surprises, the 7 members are all already known to MCU followers.
Thunderbolts : Which characters will be in the team?
During the Comic-Con which took place this summer, we learned that a film Thunderbolts was in the pipes. An intriguing project because it means that a new team will be formed within the MCU. Jake Schreier will be at the head of the feature film and we were waiting in particular to know the identity of those who would form the main cast. A few weeks later, the answer has just fallen during the D23. Marvel continued to teaser some upcoming releases and lifted the lid on their tape. If you follow the Expanded Universe, you will find familiar faces.
Thunderbolts will bring together Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbor as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. The latter will be the thinking head (which we could suspect in view of her previous appearances), while Yelena will be the leader. A first concept art was presented at the D23:
Instead of introducing new heroes, Marvel decided to bet on second knives and bring them together. As a reminder, in the comics, the Thunderbolts are villains forced to work together for good. A concept identical to that of the Suicide Squad at DC. We find there, indeed, some old villains of the MCU like Taskmaster or Ghost. Zemo would not have been a task in this team following his remarkable appearances in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Part of the Marvel fanbase protested his dissatisfaction with this composition which is very different from the original one. The studio has chosen to draw on different eras of comics to offer a new interpretation.
Filming will begin next year and a release in French theaters has been scheduled for July 24, 2024.
