As the filming of “Thor: Love and Thunder” continues, actress Natalie Portman returned to her impressive physical preparation. Indeed, his character, Jane Foster, will become the new Thor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Thor – Love and Thunder : an exciting scenario
You probably already know this, but the story of Thor: Love and Thunder promises to make sparks. After the critical and popular success of Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel Studios has decided to entrust the realization of a fourth opus to Taika Waititi. This new component will adapt the story of Jason Aaron, who totally renewed Thor’s universe through comics.
The latter has indeed turned everything upside down, notably giving Thor’s hammer to Jane Foster, the hero’s former girlfriend. Through his saga, the screenwriter gave Marvel Comics a new goddess of thunder. Jane Foster therefore becomes Thor, Thor loses his powers to become Odinson, and Gorr the Destroyer of Gods is one of the most impactful antagonists of recent years. Unfortunately for Jane Foster, she has severe terminal cancer, and each of her transformations into a Goddess of Thunder weakens her further.
This is basically the story that will tell Thor: Love and Thunder. Expected for May 4, 2022, the feature film offers an impressive cast, including Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Christian Bale (Gorr), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Russell Crowe (Zeus), Jamie Alexander (Sif), but also all Guardians of the Galaxy : Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff.
Extreme workout
Natalie Portman made her MCU debut in 2011, in the first part of the saga Thor. She then came back in Thor: The Dark World, before taking a step back from the connected world. She briefly appeared in Avengers: Endgame, but makes a comeback in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, this return is a little different since the actress will now play a super-heroine on the screen. Gone is the role of the girlfriend, this time you have to gain muscle, and be credible as a vigilante. So necessarily, the actress underwent drastic training to step into Thor’s shoes. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress reconsidered her involvement in the MCU, and on his rigorous training:
It was really fun. I worked with a trainer, Naomi Pendergast, for, I believe, four months before the shoot, and then obviously throughout the shoot. We did a lot of weight training and a lot of protein meals, heavy weight training that I had never done before. Of course, I never really tried to get bulky. It was very physical, so it was a lot of agility work and also strength.
Even though Natalie Portman has a long career, she played very few characters who demanded a drastic physical change (except possibly Black swan). Gaining weight and mass is therefore a fairly new exercise for Natalie Portman. But the latter seems to have appreciated and mastered this learning.
